it's really happening!

Beginning this fall I will be enrolled in courses through Liberty University's Distance Learning Program! We're awaiting my final financial package, but as soon as it's signed, I'll be officially registered. God stirred something up in me these past few months and I stepped out in faith and applied to several schools. I know that God will work out the details, and so far I have not been dissapointed! Everything is working out great. Today I received my official "congratulations you've been accepted" phone call and e-mail from LU. My major will be Religion and I'll be working towards my Bachelors degree beginning this fall! I can't tell you all how excited I am! I'll be able to complete the entire course right here at home and by the time I'm done I'll be able to follow my dreams and start a career in Ministry. God is awesome friends. Simply awesome! Please pray for this new change in our lives and the upcoming semester. God brought me here, and He'll take me there. Nothing excites me more than jumping on and enjoying the ride God has set before me!
Liberty here I come!

shots

You know, I find comfort in the state maintaining my child's shots. Meaning, I'm glad someone who knows what they're doing can tell me when my child needs shots. But... this time I believe they were wrong. Oldest got 2 shots yesterday because I trusted the nurse who's supposed to know what she's doing... They gave him a chicken pox shot and an MMR. Both of which he's already had. Had to have them before starting school. It was very traumatic for him and he had an immediate reaction. Then later on he began having tummy issues and is having to stay home today. So here's the question... what do I do now? He's had 2 shots he didn't even need, had a reaction, the Dr. says he should be fine, but I'm a little miffed about it. He went through needless pain and trauma (we're talking MAJOR kicking, screaming, hitting, slapping, screaming fit here) because someone didn't take the time to really LOOK at his shot record to see that he'd had the shots 5 years ago. For me it's become  a definite lesson in blind trust of people. I've always trusted the "system" to know what the boys need and when, but this time they were wrong. Reminds me that there is only One I can blindly trust to know exactly what I need and when I need it. People will always let me down. No matter how knowledgeable they are or how many computer databases they have, or even if they are a government department focused on maintaining the most accurate records. Sooner or later, someone will mess up and things will go sour. But with God, He's always on top of things and will never give me more than I need, sooner than I need it. Isn't it awesome that in a world where you can't really count on much to remain stable and right, we've got a God who will always remain our constant.

new sidebar section

Hey everyone! Just wanted to mention I've added a new item in my sidebar. It's books I recommend to read. While many of them are written by Christian authors, some are not. While I would never recommend a book that had questionable material in it, some of the books on my list may have words that you might find objectionable. So use your best judgement. All of the books on the list are books that have touched my heart, made me question, or made me think deeply over issues in today's world. I'm also going to try to do a book "review" of sorts every now and then when a particular book strikes me more deeply than others. Reading is one of my favorite ways to wind down and I've been doing a LOT of it lately so that's what prompted the "recommeded books" list. If you read a book from my list let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

my boy

Go here and check out my little man (he is the little boy in the goggles, you can pause the flash player to see the picture longer)! Go here to read the full article. My little man made the FRONT cover of today's paper! He is so stinkin cute in those goggles. He told me this morning everyone is making a big deal about the article because, "they know I'm a scientist now". He is so darn cute! His principal is going to frame the article and hang it in the hallway so everyone can see it and his teacher, Mrs. Berna, had him autograph her copy this morning. He is loving this! And oh yes... I am one PROUD momma!

************************************************

An update on my dad: They released him from the hospital on Friday still not knowing what is causing the chest pain. They did a heart cath and stress test and both came back showing no new damage to his heart. They did a scope on Friday morning and will do a scan at some point this week. Hopefully by mid-week we'll know what's going on. In the meantime though he is still having pains and not feeling well. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and I will update again when I know more. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for our family. Your thoughts, prayers, cards, and phone calls have meant a great deal to our family!
